Juniper is a seven-story mixed-use apartment community in Columbia, Maryland, across from Merriweather Post Pavilion. It consists of 382 market-rate apartments with 70,000 square feet of in-line retail. The project is constructed as a double-level podium with five levels of wood-framed apartments above it, all of which wrap around an eight-level precast garage with 551 spaces. The project features an interior courtyard with a swimming pool as well as other amenities such as fitness centers and clubrooms. Though the project had a challenging and complicated exterior facade with various materials and architectural elements, Retana Builders and the general contractor (CBG) worked with the design team to complete the work successfully without impacting the schedule. Despite schedule delays due to unusually inclement weather, Retana Builders and CBG were able to accelerate construction and deliver the project a month ahead of schedule.
